‘I see a business lady, a policy maker…’ Baroness Lucy Neville-Rolfe was appointed a life peer for the Conservative Party in 2013. Her high-powered career as a civil servant took her to John Major’s 10 Downing Street, where she ran the deregulation unit in the cabinet office. Lucy then made the transition to business, spending 15 years at Tesco where she helped expand the retailer to a £72 billion business. She became Company Secretary and was appointed to the Board in 2006. Lucy retired from Tesco in 2013. She is a Non-Executive Director of ITV PLC and Metro AG, a member of the Advisory Board of PwC, a Governor of the London Business School and President of the European retail association EuroCommerce. Lucy is an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College, Oxford, where she studied as a student. She says the best advice she’s ever been given was ‘to be yourself’.
