Our Story
What I See is a global collection of women’s voices coming together to share, connect, and actively shape what it means to be a woman.
By asking the question ‘What do you see when you look in the mirror?’, the Project finds different ways for women to reflect on self-perceptions and female identity, and becomes a platform for them to add their voice.
To get involved, you can:
Connect. Explore our Features Series on real female role models and join the Conversations on the issues you care about.
Share. Tell us what you see in the mirror.
Act. Inspire other women and girls to see their own potential.
What do you see?
Take two minutes, and ask yourself one question. What do you see when you look in the mirror?
Where it all started
The What I See Project all began with Edwina Dunn, a successful entrepreneur who has always been fascinated by people's stories and motivations.
What I See filmmakers
Our filmmakers come from all over the world, and document the inspirational women that they meet.
What do you see?
The What I See Project is a shared platform of stories, in a space free from judgement. We want to know what it means to be a woman, so we want to know what it means to be you. So take a moment, ask yourself what do you see, and share your story with the thousands of other women who have shared theirs.
Telling your story is just the beginning. We use your contributions to draw out the issues that matter to women today, create conversations, and inspire. After you have told us what you see, you can keep shaping the Project by joining in with our discussions, attend or organise an event, or make a film to tell more stories of amazing role models.
Where it all started
The What I See Project all began with Edwina Dunn, a successful entrepreneur who has always been fascinated by people's stories and motivations. One afternoon, on a shopping trip with her then eight-year old daughter, Edwina watched the dance of her daughter's feet underneath the changing room curtain reflect back at her the whims, opinions and honest emotions of a child looking into the mirror. Edwina went on to pioneer worldwide loyalty programmes such as Tesco's Clubcard, but returned later in a not-for-profit venture to the power of the mirror as a gateway into women's identities.
