It is not my earliest childhood memory but a memory that reminds me of how naturally persistent I am. I lived in the shadow of my brilliant sister and brother. I never had the same high school grades and did not achieve academic rewards but I was still determined to attend university. When I told my father my intention, his reply was 'why bother, unless you are going after your MRS (Mrs.). degree'. I was heartbroken and angry but I continued on, and never let go of my desire to attend university. I had to work hard but I completed my degree in economics and later a masters degree. To this day I rely on this memory to remember to stay strong even when others do not see what I see.
