What Women See in Liverpool

What Women See in Liverpool

On the 9th April, the What I See team eagerly bustled on to a train to Liverpool, excited by our first out-of-London event to extend our project to the north of England. We had been invited by Andrew & Liz Collinge to host our next event in their hairdressing salon in the heart of the city. Not only are they husband and wife, they have also been dubbed ‘King & Queen of Makeovers’ by ITV's show This Morning and are seen as International Ambassadors for the hairdressing industry.

What became clear during our stay was the fantastic relationship the couple had formed with the locals. The way the Liverpudlians spoke with such warmness in their voice about the beauty duo was very apparent - perhaps as they have contributed with such fondness to the city in more ways than one – Andrew even having been among Liverpool’s representatives invited for the opening ceremony of Capital of Culture 2008.

Their salon was a great setting for the evening as it beautifully reflected the project, with mirrors dotted on every wall.  Women arrived throughout the afternoon, had their hair and nails done, whilst sipping on a glass of champagne, with the opportunity to be interviewed on camera. Once all the guests had arrived, Liz and Edwina welcomed everybody and introduced the project. This was then followed by a show reel of contributions to the project we’d put together from women in Chile; which caused mixed emotions–  some women chuckled, some women had tears in their eyes.

For the remainder of the evening, everybody was deep in conversation, stimulated by the questions we were asking – many contributed whether in writing or on camera! So, what do our ladies from Liverpool see when they look in the Mirror?
